Syncomatic version 3
I’ve just released version 3 of my Syncomatic plugin which syncs metadata between files with matching names or within stacks. The changes are
- Dialog box settings made “sticky” – ie saved from session to session
- Added HEIC to list of file types
- New buttons to allow settings to be quickly cleared or reset
I shot in both raw and JPEG files, but due to bad advice imported them as separate files. Thus, I have xyz.ORF and xyz.JPG. To complicate matters further, I may have ratings and keywords for either or both of the paired files. I have two questions for you.
First, my initial test of the program indicated that copying keywords from the source to the target file wiped out the keywords that existed in the target. Is there any way to avoid this – to apply the keywords from both to both or at least to one version?
Second, when importing I now uncheck the “Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate photos” so files are now identified in Lightroom as “filename.ORF+JPEG.” Is there any way for your program (or any other program) to link the two separate files in this way – as if I’d linked them upon import?
Thanks.
David
Syncomatic can help, but I don’t think it can ever cope with all the complications that we get ourselves into! There is an option to Merge Keywords, David. It’s designed to preserve existing keywords applied to the target photos.
No plugin can change the Raw+JPEG identifier – Adobe don’t allow it. Once the metadata is OK for these separate files, you could save metadata back to the files (Ctrl S or Cmd S) and then remove them from the catalogue, being careful not to choose delete. Reimport them and they should be ORF+JPEG. That’s probably the easiest way.
