No more babysitting imports?
Not sure this works with every camera and on both Mac and PC, but see Importing Multiple Memory Cards Into Lightroom At The Same Time. For people shooting a lot of pictures and who has multiple card readers, this will be a big plus.
Well, I’m surprised that nobody knows this is possible, because it was always the case, since Lr3.
However, the lmethod has two flaws :
– It doesn’t eject the memory cards automatically.
– Importing multiple cards tends to generate a big mess in Grid view, mixing pictures from different shootings.
That’s why I don’t recommend it because, at the end, you don’t save time.

Thanks Gilles. The mixing doesn’t worry me, because those who’ll benefit most from this workaround often have one job filling a number of cards. Also, I don’t see the likely benefit as timesaving but not needing to be around while it’s happening. I’m thinking of one friend / client who returns home after an evening with 1600-2000 pictures spread across 4 cards and needs to recover / eat / sleep. The last thing he wants to do is keep returning to his desk to see if LR has finished downloading a card – better to leave them all running simultaneously.
Yes, John, in this particular case, I understand the benefits… as long as you don’t want to start editing and sorting during the import process, of course.
