X-LR is a plugin for Lightroom Classic 8, 7, 6 and 5 which uses the film simulation settings from Fujifilm raw files to automatically:
- Apply the Lightroom profile corresponding to the film simulation
- Apply Develop Presets based on the film simulation
- Extract Fuji custom metadata such as shutter type, AF mode, face detection etc
- Read star ratings
- Via the Expert Mode bonus feature
- Read other Fuji settings
- Set any Lightroom sliders or presets
Why X-LR?
When you import raw files into Lightroom, you see the results of Fuji’s film simulation in the Import dialog box and also briefly in Library. Adobe’s own raw conversion then takes over and you get the Adobe look.
If you want Fuji’s film simulation colours in Lightroom, Develop’s Camera Calibration panel offers “profiles”. Adobe developed these in conjunction with Fujifilm engineers and they are quite close.
But how can you remember which film simulation you used for a photo or set of photos? It’s easy if you only used one film simulation that day, and you can just set the corresponding profile yourself. But what if you aren’t sure, or if you took lots of photos and chose a few film simulations? Did you choose Acros+Red or Acros+Green for that photo? Or maybe you chose Provia?
X-LR was designed to quickly and automatically overcome this problem.
How to use X-LR
- Import pictures as normal
- Select pictures in Library or Develop
- From the File menu
- File > Plugin Extras > jb X-LR >Apply the Film Simulation profile to selected photos
The plugin’s title “jb X-LR” is itself grayed out, but the actual menu Apply…. should be enabled.
- File > Plugin Extras > jb X-LR >Apply the Film Simulation profile to selected photos
- You then see a dialog box like this:
- In general, leave the Apply boxes checked
- Uncheck a box only if you do not want to apply Adobe’s profile for that film simulation
- X-LR will still look for that film simulation and can apply a preset instead
- Add a preset if you want
- Press OK
Auf Deutsch
Volker Kindermann was very helpful when I was developing X-LR and wrote these instructions in German: Cooles Tool – kurz vorgestellt: X-LR Lightroom Plugin
System Requirements
X-LR is tested on Mac and PC, and for Lightroom 5 or later.
It will not run on Lightroom 4 or earlier.
Camera support
- Raw files from all Fuji X and G cameras
- DNGs including those generated by X-Transformer
- Non-Fuji raw files are not supported
Older Lightroom, new camera?
If your camera is too new for your version of Lightroom, the plugin will not be any benefit.
In that case, I recommend that your best way forward is to upgrade to the current version of Lightroom which for some people will also mean that you take advantage of its greatly-improved rendering of Fuji files.

Hello John,
Is X-LR compatible with LR Classic v9 or v10?
With LR v9 and X-LR v2.01 I get a spinning wheel of death … 🙁
X-LR 1.4 is not kompatible with the metadata-format.
Thank you,
R
Hello,
Just sent you an email with my product key–I actually purchased a few years ago but have since switched devices. I don’t think my product key is working/is it tied to my old laptop? I keep getting an error that I’m only on the trial version.
Thanks,
P
I’ve not received that email, Phil, but the licence number should work on any computer that you want, not just your laptop. Make sure you entered it correctly – a lot of people copy and paste it, not noticing a space at the end.
HI,
CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME IF THE LATEST VERSION OF X-LR IS FULLY COMPATIBLE WITH MY FUJI XT4 CAMERA.DOES IT INCLUDE THE LATEST FUJI FILM SIMULATIONS I.E. AETERNA BLEACH BY PASS FOR EXAMPLE?
THANKS FOR YOUR ANSWER
EMMANUEL
I believe it does, Emmanuel. Have you tried? If it doesn’t, maybe email me and make a test file available to me.
Bonjour
hello I have lightromm 6.14 and i Don’t succeed to import my photo from my fujixt4 in raw, how can i do ti? thank you
You would have to convert the files to DNG, Lucas, using the free DNG converter or something like Iridient. But why not upgrade to 9 – Adobe’s processing of Fuji raw has improved a lot since 6.
How is this different then the new LR classic or New PS presets? Do I see the difference in colors or anything that is not in LR? I like to know before I buy.New version 2020 looks very nice and does give the fuji profiles so then why should I buy your, I need the clarity?
Just want to say wow…
This plugin does a very good job. Thank you!
Hi, Will this work with custom film recipes on the GFX50s and Xpro2?
I have some custom recipes I built from fujixweekly.com but it seems like your plugin only brings in the base film simulation and ratings.
thank you
Josh
In general, probably no, but take a look at the expert mode which might allow you to map values in the Fuji maker note data to presets. I think it would be a lot of fiddling around.
Hi
do you plan to update your plugin for the new X-T4?
Providing the version of LR supports the camera, it should already work with those files.
X-T2, X-Pro3 etc.
John,
I just purchased your X-LR plugin and love the results. I always keep my XT-3 viewfinder in ACROS mode, even when I’m shooting images I intend to print in color. Until I found your plugin, I was frustrated to see the images come in to LR with the ACROS preview, and then watch as, one by one, the monochrome previews blinked away and the preview information disappeared irretrievably into the void. So thank you!
But… When I work on black and white images, I convert to b&w and make my global adjustments in LR, but then convert back to color, export to PS, and reconvert to b&w with an adjustmnet layer. PS’s b&w adjustment layer is close enough to LR’s default b&w conversion that I can easily reproduce the state of the image I created while in b&w mode in LR. This lets me maintain the underlying color information for local PS contrast adjustments and selections.
Is there any way to export both the ACROS-profile image and the underlying color information at the same time? I know I could export both the color image and the ACROS image into PS as separate layers, but I’m also doing focus stacking, and I’d really prefer not to have to merge the ACROS and color versions of 30-40 layers separately.
Thanks.
Henry Bortman
If I understand what you are trying to do, wouldn’t virtual copies work?
Hi,
I have bought the paid version of the plug in, I have my code and everything.
However when applying to photos in lightroom it states it will only be applied to 5 photos and the restriction is removed once you purchase the full plug in.
How can I get it to apply to all photos instead 5 at a time?
thanks
It sounds like you haven’t entered the registration code correctly in Plugin Manager, Christina. When you do co, you should see a green tick. Usually this problem is because people cut and paste the code, but don’t notice a space character at the start or end.
Hi John,
I just double checked that and there is definitely a green tick. Any other ideas?
Are you sure that the registration code is “sticking”? Normally, you should enter it once and never need it again. But in some cases LR fails to remember it (save it to the preferences). So go into Plugin Manager, see if the code is empty, enter it and confirm the tick is present, close the dialog box and immediately restart LR. Does this help?
Thank you for this. I have purchased and installed the X-LR plugin under Adobe Lightroom Classic (version 8). I use custom film simulation recipes some of which were created by Ritchie Roesch. Does the plugin also discover and apply custom film simulations recipes?
https://fujixweekly.com/recipes/
I have never heard of those recipes and the plugin would not automatically detect them. However, what you can do is create presets for each one, and the plugin can then run preset Velvia Recipe when it detects the Velvia FS in the raw file, etc.
Fujifilm X cameras, such as the X-T2 that I own, have different Film Simulation options, one which is Classic Chrome, which is supposed to mimic the general look of Kodak colour transparency film. If I change the camera settings as follows:
Dynamic Range: DR200
Highlight: +4
Shadow: -2
Color: +4
Sharpening: +1
Noise Reduction: -3
Grain: Strong
White Balance: Auto, +2 Red, -4 Blue
ISO: Auto up to ISO 6400
Exposure Compensation: -1/3 to -1 (typically)
These custom settings are called recipes. The question I am asking is, can your plugin read those settings and apply them to the RAF?
NOTE: Fujifilm’s Highlight, Shadow, Sharpening, Noise Reduction, White Balance, and Grain settings have no direct Adobe Lightroom equivalent.
The bonus Expert Mode would be able to handle that, though in my view it’s more effort than it is worth.
Hi John,
downloading and installing the new version has done the trick. I was confused as I had version 1.4 and the plugin manager told me v1.4 was up to date. The same is true for your website where it say current version is 1.4 (cf. Try/buy box).
Regards Uli
Ah, I understand, Uli. I’ll update the version code over the weekend.
Thanks
John
Thank you!
Hi John,
I have a new camera, Fuji X-T3 and it seems that your plugin doesn’t include Eterna as a film simulation. It does not write the correct film simulation in the Keywords.Nor does it apply the Profile. Am I missing something?
Regards Uli
Hi Uli
Are you sure about that? I added Eterna last year and the other new FS Classic Chrome. I just downloaded the plugin from here and both were listed.
John
Hi John,
It seems like my Lightroom does not have the v2 profiles for the Fujifilm simulations. Where can I download these?
Regards,
Renzo
What version of Lightroom? And what camera? v2 profiles are included in Lightroom and only for some new cameras – you don’t download them.
I use Adobe CC and downloaded Lightroom Classic from the Creative Cloud app.I believe the latest LR version installed is 9.1. My camera is X-T30.
OK, it looks like Adobe have withdrawn the v2 profiles for that camera, probably renaming them.
Go into Plugin Manager, Options and remove the X-T30 from the list of v2 profile cameras. Then run the plugin again.
John,
Thank you! Runs like a charm. I love what you do.
