Plugin Preview – jb-X-LR
A few months ago I got my first mirrorless or electronic viewfinder-based camera, a Fuji X-T2, and I have found myself shooting with the “Fuji film simulations” much more than I ever expected.
The trouble is, while you see their appearance in Lightroom’s Import dialog box and briefly in Library, Adobe’s raw conversion then takes over.
But what if you could automatically apply Fuji film simulations in Lightroom? That is what jb X-LR does – read more and download it here.
Note that this is a preview and has the following restrictions:
- This preview will expire on April 30, 2017
- It should work with any Fuji camera
- The preview only works on 5 images at a time
If you want to test it with more than 5 images at a time, email me. If you will definitely try it (as opposed to promising to do so) and provide feedback, good or bad, please contact me by PM or email and I will remove the preview restrictions.
Appreciate the plugin! I’ve been finding it very useful and purchased the full version. I read somewhere that this plugin will also transfer the in-camera ratings that are made on photos? I just tried it out and the film simulations apply properly, but I don’t see the star ratings. Is there a way to enable the star rating import? I have “read ratings” checked in the other options tab.
Glad you like it!
It should be able to read the star ratings. Are you 100% certain it isn’t? I would need to know what camera body, if you are shooting raw+jpeg, and how you have set photos to save to two card slots.
here’s where I found out about your present just FYI
thanks

Thanks Simon.
I really like using this plug in… Is there any way to get the registration code.
Kind Regards
Max
Any idea how the Firmware update to the X-T2 yesterday affects this plugin? It seems like the 2.0 firmware does import film simulations.. but I haven’t been able to make it work. I’ll try your plugin out now though!
Thanks!
Charles
It should make no difference – they’ve not changed the file format and how simulations are recorded.
John,
I had thought you released this, hope you do it works very well. After the few things I found quite awhile ago it has been working really well. Thanks again.
Best,
Alan
Hi Alan. No, I had only made it available to a few people and didn’t get enough feedback for me to be sure there was demand or that it worked! FujiRumors saw it and I’m now moving to selling it, with the extra features. Did I give you the registration code? You’ll need it for Belfast!
John
Hi John-
I have a number of your plugins and love them so much! I almost just bought the unlimited version knowing I could rely on your great work…but…I have almost every fuji camera EXCEPT the xt2 !!! I’m just not a fan of the “mini dslr” form factor and even though will probably keep my xt1 for a while, I’m deep into the x100 series (all of them) and the xp1 and xp2.
Is it so much work for you to make other camera body versions that it won’t happen?
thanks
tom
Ah, but it works with all Fuji cameras, as far as I can tell. It’s just that I could only test 100% with the XT2. I think there’s been a misreading – I will edit the text tomorrow.
Thanks, John…I was so excited to see this, I was skimming the comments and instructions racing to actually TRY IT 🙂
Count me in to buy it – you need to put a price and order button on your site,
thanks for continuing to think about good stuff that adobe doesn’t get!!!

Hi John
This is such a useful tool/plug-in. I hope you will publish a version which will work with X-T1 and x100 files. I use the film sims often and get frustrated by LR’s default of going back to Adobe standard.
Thanks and great work!

Try it with X-T1 and X100 files, Doug. I developed it with my XT2 (the only Fuji camera I have) but I am told it works with all other Fuji cameras.
been looking for this function for a long time. Thanks for doing this. Will definitely try it out and let you know, but it already looks good from the reading.
This plug-in is working with DNG files coverted from X-T2 files? I’m working only with DNG files. 🙂
Yes, it says so on the page. The DNGs can be Adobe-generated or from X Transformer.
Hello John,
Thank you for developing this plugin! I’m excited to try it out. Just one question, any chance you can also develop a plugin to make the rating system work in a similar manner?
I’ve grown used to rating photos when I shot with Canon so I could pull up Specific photos quickly after a shoot. I would love to have this functionality with Fuji.
You’re in luck, Ryan. Only this weekend I added that feature to my development version!
Hi, I love this plugin. I miss Astia and Velvia films. Your plugin seems to be really spot on. I have Fujifilm X100 and unless I use JPG option Adobe Raw conversion simply looses the postprocessing my camera applies to captured images!
Great work, well done,
Marek
Thanks Marek!
Very useful tool, could you send the serial no please, I would like to try it with a full batch of files.
Excellent. E Frampton
The log file doesn’t show any EXIF data. I then ran exiftool on my X-E2 and X100s files and both show string values for the “Film Mode” attribute rather than numerical values like those in your plugin.
Here’s an example output for a X-E2 file:
0x1401 Film Mode : F0/Standard (Provia)
The log file doesn’t, but in Documents there is a folder called jb X-LR which contains the data extracts for each photo.
The plugin shows the Exif values in more readable format. Your line from Exiftools should be in the my text extract – search it for “FilmMode”.
Hi John,
finally someone who built this! I’ve been using Fuji X cameras since the X100s came out. I just tried out your plugin. It works quite well but only with X-T2 files. May I help you out in expanding support for Fuji X cameras with X-Trans II sensor? I have an X-T2, X-E2 and a X100s. Just let me know if I can be of help.
There’s so much more that I’d love to see in this plugin. If you could read out the DR setting and apply a preset for DR200 and DR400 files… 🙂 Same for the shadow and highlight setting. Sorry, I’m just so excited that finally Fuji support is coming to LR.
Have a nice weekend
Andreas
Hi Andreas
Thanks for the positive feedback! I’ll put the DR to one side for now, but I have in mind an expert mode for users to add their own parameters.
You can help with other X bodies. You can supply me with raw files and tell me what film simulation you applied, but to speed up that process here’s a tip… Enable the middle option in the Debug section, run the plugin, and then look in the DOcuments folder – you’ll see extracts of the EXIF. You could then find the tag and say “Ah, the XE2 uses xyz for B&W-Red filter”.
