Facebook recently changed their API to stop desktop applications like Lightroom from uploading photos. While this aspect of Lightroom’s Facebook publish service would no longer work, in my view Adobe over-reacted by completely disabling the plugin. Fair enough to prevent people publishing new photos, but why prevent you checking which pictures you had previously uploaded to Facebook?

A few people complained, and maybe Adobe can be persuaded to re-enable the plugin. Let’s see….

But for now I wrote a small script which recovers any collection sets or collections (Facebook albums) and converts them into a collection set called Facebook Collections. The script’s called Copy Facebook collections, is free, and should work in any version of Lightroom. Setup instructions are at the start of the file.

UPDATE 17 August – Adobe have re-enabled the plugin “for a temporary period”. Even with it re-enabled, the script should still be useful.
